In 1938, Conn made a copy of this instrument and named it the 8D for over 60 years the 8D has been the workhorse for the majority of professional orchestral musicians, both on the East and West Coast. Its traditional large throat bell and lighter weight all nickel construction than most horns makes. Horner was so enthusiastic about the horn, he had the Kruspe instruments made to his specifications (the Horner model) shipped from Germany for sale in the United States. The Conn 8D offers the flexibility and projection a horn player needs to succeed at all levels. The wrap of this instrument is quite similar to that of J.W. A glance makes it clear that this is in Bb, not low Eb as an alto cornet would be. Listed by the seller as a Model 15 Eb Alto Cornet. The Conn 8D was the first popular American horn (although it was derived from the German Kruspe-style instruments), and it made the quintessential American horn sound that is now well-known across the world.
